Social Media Officer
at Immigrant Council of Ireland
Challenge
When I joined the Immigrant Council of Ireland as a Social Media Officer (contract), the organization lacked a structured digital content and social media framework to support its communication objectives. While content was produced regularly, several operational and design challenges affected consistency, efficiency, and audience engagement.
Lack of a Strategic Social Media Framework
No documented social media strategy aligned with the organisation's goals. Content planning was reactive, not driven by measurable objectives or campaign priorities.
Inconsistent Visual Identity
Many social media assets were created with AI tools without clear design direction, brand guidelines, or scalable, reusable templates, lacking standard visual components for consistency.
Fragmented Content Operations
No centralised content planner or editorial workflow to coordinate campaigns. Team roles, responsibilities, and approval processes for content creation were not clearly defined, leading to inconsistent delivery and limited collaboration.
Limited Stakeholder Collaboration
Content development involved minimal collaboration with internal stakeholders, limiting engaging, audience-focused communications. Messaging and visuals varied across channels, hurting brand consistency and recognition.
Underutilised Management Tools
The organisation's LinkedIn wasn't managed with native tools like Page Admin, scheduling, or analytics, leaving opportunities to optimise publishing, monitor engagement, and refine content strategy largely untapped.
Limited Data-Driven Decision Making
Google Analytics and social media analytics were used sporadically instead of as part of ongoing performance measurement. There was no consistent method for tracking traffic, assessing campaigns, or leveraging insights to improve future content and design.
What I Achieved
During my contract as Social Media Officer at the Immigrant Council of Ireland, I established the foundations for a more strategic, collaborative, and data-informed social media operation by introducing structured processes, improving design consistency, and embedding performance measurement into content delivery.
Developed a Strategic Social Media Framework
Developed a social media strategy aligned with organisational communications and advocacy goals, introducing proactive content planning to improve campaign alignment and consistency across channels.
Built a Scalable Design System
Created a scalable, brand-aligned social media design system with reusable templates and visual guidelines, standardising identity across platforms and improving content production speed and consistency.
Improved Content Planning and Collaboration
Established a centralised content planner that streamlined campaign coordination and publishing schedules, while working closely with internal stakeholders to develop engaging, audience-focused content aligned with organisational priorities. I also defined clear roles, responsibilities, and approval workflows, which significantly improved the efficiency and consistency of content planning and delivery.
Enhanced Social Media Management
Managed Facebook and Instagram publishing through Meta Business Suite, improving scheduling efficiency and ensuring greater consistency across content delivery. I also utilised LinkedIn’s scheduling tools, Page Admin features, and analytics to streamline posting, monitor engagement, and optimise overall content performance.
Embedded Data-Driven Decision Making
Integrated Google Analytics and social media platform analytics into the content workflow to monitor campaign performance, track website traffic, and evaluate audience engagement. These performance insights were then used to refine content strategy, optimise future campaigns, and support evidence-based decision making.
